Location: London (on-site)
Contract: Initial 6-month contract
Rate: Competitive day rate (inside/outside IR35 depending on assessment)
Make an impact in medical device R&D.
CY Partners is supporting a pioneering Medtech organisation advancing molecular diagnostics with cutting-edge microfluidics and precision electromechanical systems. Operating to ISO 13485 within a BSL-2 lab environment, the team blends Engineering and biology to deliver rapid, accurate, life-changing diagnostic technology.
The opportunity
As a Senior Engineering Technician, you will troubleshoot, maintain, assemble, and optimise complex medical device prototypes and instruments used across R&D. You’ll collaborate with engineers and scientists, own small technical projects, and uphold best practice documentation in a regulated setting.
What you’ll do
- Diagnose & resolve issues on complex electromechanical instrumentation in a BSL-2 laboratory.
- Run tests using control software and workshop tools to support ongoing product development and verification.
- Assemble & maintain R&D devices, rigs, and fixtures—covering microfluidics, pneumatics, sensors, motion/temperature control, and fluid handling.
- Contribute technically across multi-disciplinary teams (Engineering, Medtech, Diagnostics, Biology).
- Create & maintain high-quality documentation (SOPs, BOMs, WIs, test reports) in line with ISO 13485 and QMS procedures.
- Own tasks/projects end-to-end, planning work and escalating risks proactively.
What we’re looking for
- Proven experience as an Engineering Technician in Medtech, medical devices, diagnostics, or another regulated industry.
- Strong troubleshooting and preventive maintenance on precision electromechanical systems.
- Hands-on rapid prototyping (e.g., CNC milling, 3D printing, laser cutting), electrical assembly, soldering, and basic CAD (e.g., SolidWorks).
- Comfortable in wet lab / BSL-2 settings and familiar with lab safety.
- Excellent documentation, communication, and attention to detail; methodical approach to quality in an ISO 13485 environment.
- Familiarity with issue tracking/project tools (e.g., Jira, Trello).
Nice to have: Experience with micro-pumps, valves, pressure/vacuum systems, thermal control, sensors, DAQ, or data logging in medical device R&D.
Why join?
- Work at the intersection of Engineering, microfluidics, and molecular diagnostics.
- Contribute directly to products that improve patient outcomes.
- Collaborative, innovation-led culture with clear impact and visibility.
- London-based 6-month contract offering immediate hands-on involvement in meaningful Medtech work.
